What is Chrysler Airflow Concept Showcased at CES?

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) takes place every year in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it has been ‘the’ place for consumer electronics companies to showcase their latest and greatest technologies. Lately, though, CES has also served as a venue for automakers to exhibit their future electric vehicles or concepts, and this year, Chrysler showcased its Airflow EV concept at CES. What is the Chrysler Airflow concept all about? Read this blog post from Stony Plain Chrysler to find out.

What Is the Chrysler Airflow?

The Chrysler Airflow is a fully electric crossover that promises up to 400 miles of electric drive range and one that has a Level 3 self-driving capability on the SAE self-driving scale. The all-wheel-drive equipped concept is powered by two electric drive motors (EDMs) mounted at the front and rear of the vehicle that generate 150 kW or 201 horsepower each and is fuelled by a large battery pack mounted under the floor. Although Chrysler did not specify the battery capacity, one report suggests that the Airflow concept has a 118-kWh battery plus fast-charging capability.

Chrysler estimates that the Airflow can deliver between 350 to 400 miles (around 560 to 640 kilometres) of range on a full charge, and there’s a possibility that it can get larger EDMs from the Stellantis modular system.

Self-Driving EV?

Chrysler also announced artificial intelligence-backed software covering the car’s operating system dubbed STLA Brain, an infotainment system called STLA SmartCockpit, and the Level 3 self-driving system called STLA AutoDrive on which the Airflow concept is based.

Chrysler hasn’t provided any details on how the self-driving system works, but the Level 3 rating suggests that the Airflow can handle itself in specific scenarios but requires the driver to be alert and take control at any time.

The interior of the four-seater EV concept has an airy and spacious feel owing to the light tones and expansive panoramic sunroof. However, the main highlight here is the new dashboard which has three large displays spanning almost the entire width of the dash, including an instrument cluster display, a central infotainment display, and a front passenger display. There are also two rear displays for the rear passengers and cameras facing each seat which let the occupants participate in video calls and more. The screens are based on the AI-based STLA Brain and STLA SmartCockpit infotainment system. Other highlights include 22-inch wheels, futuristic ambient lighting effects, and a blacked-out roof.

When will it launch?

The Airflow gives us a glimpse into the electric future of the Chrysler brand and heralds the future direction of the brand. Although we would love to see the Chrysler Airflow hit showroom lots soon, Chrysler says it will launch its first EV by 2025 and go fully electric by 2028.
